RULES AND BUREAUCRACY

For the construction of swimming pools, it is necessary to present a SCIA (Certified Report of the beginning of work) to your near Council , it has to be compiled by a qualified professional and appointed by the client. After 30 days, if there are no objections from the Council , it is possible to start building . However, it is always useful to contact the Council’s technical office asking about the possibilities or any restrictions imposed for the construction of the pool.
In addition to this , we recommend to make sure that there are territorial constraints or protection of the territory by the Fine Arts and to contact the authorities responsible for requesting further authorizations that will increase waiting times.
Nevertheless , the client will be in charge for appointing his own surveyor or designer to manage the bureaucratic part and any professionals where a geological survey of the land is necessary, and the calculation of the base slab cement (the only construction work to be carried out) and site management.

According the regulation (UNI EN 16713: 2016) which it defines the characteristics of the pool facilities according to the intended use. Within the legislation, it is possible to consult a table where the general rules to follow in relation to the classification of the pools are indicated. The pools are classified according to the use of the same and are divided into: residential swimming pools, collective use swimming pools, swimming pools for therapeutic use
It is important to bear in mind that in Italy each Region has issued a local regulation that transposes the legislation in a customized way; to have the certainty of the rules, in addition to the UNI 10637 of 2016, it is necessary to consult the site of the Region where the pool must be built.

DESIGN

The definition of the position is of fundamental importance. There are no constraints: it can be in the garden, inside a house or on a terrace as long as they have required shapes, types and sizes adaptable to every need. If it is carried out in the garden, we advise you to find an area that is more exposed to the sun and with plants far from the water so that the leaves or flowers do not go to dirty it.
The next consideration is the choice of size and shape. For the size of course there is maximum freedom, will depend on the available space as well as the needs of the family. The factor which might affect the choice for the size it could be the quantity of water to be treated that determines the size of the filtration plant and the consumption of chemical products and therefore different initial and management costs. Also regarding the form there is huge choice: if you want to swim the ideal and always the rectangular shape, if you would like to relax in it and play you can indulge yourself with free forms.

A pool for domestic use must be comfortable, and at the same time economic in management, but must be sized on the physical needs of the owners. Normally, 1.20 meters of water in the lower part and 1.80 meters in the deepest area are enough to get a mix of relaxation and sportiness. If the pool is not too large, a constant depth is also recommended.

First of all, it is important to choose the type of swimming pool and therefore the realization time to organize it. It is possible to build a swimming pool in any season, but in order to have it ready by the summer the ideal would be to build between October and March.

MAINTENANCE

The management and maintenance costs for a pool are linked to the volume of water present in the tank, to its filtration system and also to the chosen disinfection system.
The consumption of water in a pool is calculated from the sum of the volume of the tank adding a few cubic meters (8 – 10 cubic meters in a season) to carry out the filter washes, which take place every 2 weeks.
The swimming pool in winter should not be emptied and every year, on the beginning of new season, the status of the water in the pool need to be checked and replaced. If treated correctly during the previous season and during the winter, it may not be necessary to completely replacing the water, but partially only.
The cost of water varies from area to area, check on your own waterwork requirements. Energy consumption: consumption is linked to the size of the filtration system and to a minimum part to the possible underwater lights in the tank. As the dimensions of the tank grow, there is an adequate filtration system.
The filtration system pump must be running for at least 6 hours a day to ensure correct disinfection of the water, even in the absence of people. Calculate the electrical consumption of the pump of the filtration system is simple: knowing how many Kw the pump can absorbs per hour and using it for 6 hours we obtain the daily consumption and its cost eventually. However, Latest generation pumps are developed in order to guarantee more and more energy savings, in line with current environmental requirements.

Fees might increase . The pool must have an area of more than 80 square meters, the building unit must be over 160 square meters, there must be terraces over 65 square meters, lifts or hoists must be installed, there must be precious decorations. If it will be the case, the cadastral classification could undergo a change and bring your home back into the luxury category, but all these characteristics must exist simultaneously. Conversely, in the event one of the points described is missing, having a pool will not be considered ‘luxury’, but will greatly increase the value of your home and your well-being.

WATER TREATMENT

The traditional chlorine disinfection system can be combined with different systems such as UVA – UVC, OZONE, salt electrolysis. Active Oxygen.
Chlorine, when it eliminates viruses and bacteria, performs an oxidation process: one part remains in suspension in water (free chlorine) while the other part is transformed into chloramines, responsible for the classic smell of chlorine in indoor pools; when this is felt it means that the chlorine is almost finished.
Using a different system of disinfection is very useful as the oxidation of organic substances is more urgent and the chloramines are broken down, thus obtaining a safe environment, much more comfortable, less consumption of disinfectant and even water.

What product should you use for disinfecting the pool?

Chlorine is still one of the few products that guarantee excellent disinfection at low costs. Chlorine can be used in granular, liquid or salt form, which must be dissolved in the pool water. Tricloro also exists, tablets, active oxygen, and bromine. They are always chemical systems and therefore subject to hypersensitivity and skin irritations.
